Asian University of Bangladesh (Bengali: এশিয়ান ইউনিভার্সিটি অফ বাংলাদেশ) or AUB is a Private, Coeducational university of Bangladesh. It was established on 4 January 1996 by the Private University Act 1992.[1] AUB has four campuses in Uttara, Dhanmondi, Khulna and Rajshahi. The university is affiliated by University Grants Commission (Bangladesh) and managed by Asian University Trust.

History

Asian University of Bangladesh (AUB) received formal approval of the Government of the Peoples' Republic of Bangladesh on 4 January 1996 as a degree-awarding university under the Private University Act, 1992. AUB is accredited by the University Grants Commission, Bangladesh and The Government of Bangladesh. AUB is also accredited overseas.

The efforts to establish this university date back to 1990 when the idea was first mooted out by , the founder of AUB, Dr. Abul Hasan Muhammad Sadeq, to import high quality education as widely as possible from an inter-disciplinary, integrated ethico-human approach reflecting our values, heritage and principles. Efforts continued for mobilizing a pool of academic resources from experienced and committed Bangladeshi academicians attached to overseas universities. The academic programs of AUB have been prepared by experts with co-operation from reputed overseas universities to meet international standards of education.

Campus

The university established five campuses in Uttara, Dhanmondi, Motijheel, Rajshahi, and Khulna. Its central campus is situated at House 9, Road 5, Sector 7 of Uttara Model Town in Dhaka. The largest number of students of is here. The distance mode education programs of the university operate from this campus, and the university’s administrative activities are governed from this site.

The university gets its urban campuses at House 36, Road 27 (Old), 16 (New), Dhanmondi and at 28/1 Toyenbee Circular Road, Motijheel in Dhaka. The authority wants to expand its facilities to the north and the south of the country. In the south, the university campus is at 33 K. D. A. Avenue (Near Hotel Royal), Khulna; in the north, the university campus is at House C/691, Birsheshtha Shahid Jahangir Sarani, Talaimari, Kajla, Rajshahi.

Library

AUB has a big library consisting of about 1.00 (one) lakh books, 500 journals, 150 research reports and 1000 audiovisual materials. The main feature of the library is that, it has an Asia Foundation Corner. Asia Foundation has so far donated 5000 books and 900 audiovisual learning resources which have been kept in the corner. Besides Uttara, there is one more Asia Foundation corner at Dhanmondi Campus of the AUB. The materials received from the Asia Foundation are found extremely useful for the students and the faculty members of different disciplines of the University[2]

An International council of Advisors has been formed to advise AUB in its academic programs. Overseas Linkages and Accreditation

AUB has established linkages with overseas universities for academic cooperation in education and research. Accordingly, AUB has signed memoranda of understanding with the following universities:

Under an agreement, AUB students may study 50% of the courses at AUB and the remaining 50% of the courses at Ashland University, Ohio, USA., for a degree from Ashland University. Also, AUB students will be able to switch to the University of Southern Queensland, Australia., for a USQ degree with credit transfer at any point of their studies and also to University Tun Abdul Razak(UNITAR), Malaysia. with similar facilities. Credit transfer facilities are available with a number of other universities as well.

AUB is accredited by, and is a full member of APICS, which is Switzerland-based body for accreditation of universities and international cooperation in education.[5]
